Urban Louisiana French is spoken in the urban business centres of the state and have historically been centres of trade, commerce and contact with speakers of French from Europe. This would include New Orleans and its environs, Bâton Rouge and its environs, St. Martinville (here, along class lines) and other once important francophone business centers in the state. ULF sounds almost identical to Standard International French, with guttural Rs and intonation that varies from European to North American.
