Between 1850 and 1898, Louisiana Creoles, in attempts to flee the increasingly oppressive Anglo-American regime, fled to Veracruz and Tampico states of Mexico. Traffic between New Orleans, Veracruz and New Iberia were intense, leading up to the end of Reconstruction (1891).
