Louisiana’s Creole Plantation homes mirror their Caribbean cousins almost to a T.
As they were being designed, climate, terrain and culture of the owner were taken into consideration.
Those in flood zones were built high off of the ground, on stilts.
There are equal amounts of windows all the way around that, when open, effectively cooled off the house in sweltering Louisiana summers.
For cooler months, that too was taken care of, as the interior of the walls are insulated with brick, wood crossings and bousillage (a mixture of Spanish moss and mud).
Finally, these plantations are painted in vibrant colors, a style unarguably Latin.
Oh, and we cannot forget to mention the wrap-around porch on each of these homes, they’re great for entertaining.
