Oliver Mayeux is half-British, half-Louisiana Creole (Mayeux des Avoyelles) and grew up between Scotland and Nigeria.
He is currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at the University of Cambridge, UK. His research focuses on how Louisiana Creole has changed over time. Especially, his project focuses on how the endangerment and revitalization of Louisiana Creole has led to changes in the language’s grammar. He is analyzing this by applying computational methods to collections of Louisiana Creole language data from c. 1880 to the present day.
In his spare time, he enjoys learning languages, traveling, and writing poetry in English and Louisiana Creole.
