Jourdan Thibodeaux is a resident of Cypress Island, Louisiana. As a Louisiana French musician, he is an active member in Acadiana’s francophone community. Jourdan has spent several years working with tourism companies to demonstrate and explain the history and current way of life in South Louisiana. He has been a cultural ambassador of the language and music, having represented Louisiana throughout the U.S and Maritime Canada, including the 2014 Congrès Mondial Acadien. He has been recorded in numerous documentaries, and radio broadcasts, including Radio Canada, as well as television programs hosted by the Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, and TV5 Monde.
Jourdan’s education in the culture has been fully organic. His original Louisiana French was learned at home from his maternal grandmother, an Acadia Parish native, and continues to evolve as a resident of a kouri-vini region. Knowledge of traditions and customs was passed down through daily activity.
He is the current capitaine of the Faquétaïque Mardi Gras, runs a small farm, and is a USDA manufacturer of Cajun/Creole foods, like boudin, andouille, and tasso.
The preservation of Louisiana languages and culture is at the forefront of his interests.
