On the list of Militia men in the Attakapas District 1792 are at least 2 men who are ancestors of mine. Abraham Roberts also called Abram Robards came from Georgia & lived next to the Bells on Bell Isle on the Cote Blanche. The Bell family came from Samuel Bell, Sr. who migrated to the Opelousas Post listed there 24 June 1780 as a member of a group of 60 Irish & Germans from Fort Pitt in Pennsylvania Colony. They claimed to be religious refugees because they were all Catholic & were allowed to stay. The Bells settled on Bell Isle one of the highest islands on a salt dome like Avery Island. The other Bell men on the militia list are members of his family. Also related to the Roberts, Burge & Perry families through marriage.
